Dr. Karen Conn of Bryn Mawr Orthodontics explains why the back to school season is a great time for your child to be evaluated for braces or Invisalign
By Dr. Karen Conn (Bryn Mawr Orthodontics)
The start of a new school year is a great time to make sure your child's smile is ready to shine. That's why parents should include an orthodontic consultation on their back to school list.
An orthodontic consultation is an excellent way to assess your child's dental and orthodontic needs and determine whether they will be ready for braces or Invisalign during the coming school year - and the good news ist hat most orthodontists offer free consultations. During the consultation, an orthodontist will examine your child's teeth, jaws, and facial structure, and discuss potential treatment options. They will also answer any questions you have about orthodontics.
The American Association of Orthodontists (AAO) recommends that all children see an orthodontist by age 7. Of course, most children are not ready for braces or Invisalign at that age, but the earlier your child starts being monitored by an orthodontist, the better. This is because the bones and teeth are more flexible in children, and an orthodontist can determine the optimal time to start treatment. By getting your child's teeth checked early, you can avoid missing the best window for treatment and also help prevent unidentified problems from developing.
Here are some additional tips for parents who are considering getting their child braces or Invisalign:
Getting orthodontic treatment can be a big decision, but it's one that can have a positive impact on your child's smile and self-confidence. By scheduling an orthodontic consultation, you can learn more about your child's orthodontic needs and treatment options. And you can start your child on the path to a beautiful smile that they'll love for a lifetime.
